Everything is set for the start of the 2023-2024 Betsafe-WBBL season, which will commence on October 8 in Daugavpils with the match between the local Daugavpils University and the title-defending TTT Riga.
The match at the Daugavpils Cultural and Sports Center will begin at 2:00 PM.
TTT Riga beat Kibirkštis Vilnius in the league finals last season, and has already warmed up significantly this season. Unfortunately, they suffered two defeats in the EuroLeague qualification stage against opponents from Romania.
During the summer, TTT Riga lost several key players - Kare Vilka, Ilze Jakobsone, Emilia Kosla are no longer wearing the Riga club's jerseys, and the legendary Gunta Baško has become the club president. However, Dekeiya Cohen continues to dominate, and European U20 Championship star Vanesa Jasa is ready to take a big step forward. Additional experience will come from the team's new captain Ieva Pulvere, who has returned from Turkey.
For the Daugavpils team coached by Guntis Endzels, the first game will be a real test, as there is only one player over 20 years old in the team's roster - 26-year-old Kinga Piedel.
On Monday in the Riga youth derby, TTT Juniores will face BJBS Riga Juniores/LU. The latter included three 20-year-olds in their application, while TTT Juniores' oldest players are 18 years old. So the match promises to be filled with youthful enthusiasm.
The match at Ridzene will start at 6:45 PM.
